Sometimes when the boys drop the mitts and square off, it’s Shakespearean in scope – a chivalrous enforcer coming to the aid of an abused teammate. But as we all know, sometimes the goonery can be malicious, nasty and unwarranted. CBC Sports recently ranked their 10 most noteable dispicable hockey hits:
- #1 Retaliatory hit begets All-Star Game
- #2 Rocket" Richard’s tomahawk & the ensuing riot
- #3 Wayne Maki fractures Ted Green’s skull
- #4 Bobby Clarke’s Summit Series chop
- #5 Maloney crowns Glennie; crown sticks it to Maloney
- #6 The night the lights went out
- #7 Hunter ends Turgeon’s playoff run
- #8 Jeff Kugel runs wild in OHL game
- #9 Gary Suter ruins Paul Kariya’s Olympics
- #10 The Marty McSorley trial
- #11 Todd Bertuzzi’s sucker on Steve Moore. (Thanks to Greg from Puck Update for keeping us honest.)
Here’s hoping nobody gets seriously injured this year, as there are many proponents of a completely fight-free game waiting in the wings to slap down a host of new rules.

Do Enforcers Still Exist in Hockey? Modern NHL Fight Roles
If you've spent any time on Reddit or hockey Twitter lately, you've probably seen the question pop up: are enforcers still a thing in hockey? It's usually asked by someone who just watched Matt Rempe try to dismantle a human being, or maybe someone who tuned out around 2011 and is just getting back into the sport. The short answer is yes. The long answer is yes, but they don't look like Bob Probert anymore.
The game has changed, the rules have tightened, and the days of the three-minute-per...

2024-03-25The Bruins Just Got Better
What a weekend for the black and gold, eh? First, they go out and swing a great deal with the Capitals. Then they go and beat a very good Seattle team. Then the new boys join the club in Vancouver and Linus Ullmark scores the first ever goal by a Bruins goalie to ice the game 3-1. Unbelievable turn of events.

2023-02-27Turn out the Lights
Finally the Bruins have gotten on the board with a fight last night in Chicago. Nice work by Gregory Campbell to try to spark the boys. Not much of a scrap, but good on Soupy to get it started. The fight I wanted to talk about happened Thursday between Pittsburgh's Arron Asham, and Washington's Jay Beagle. It was a bit of a one sided affair, and the fight got the hockey world talking. Personally, I thought it was a good scrap, and had to be done, but others don't see it that way.
The fight s...

What’s Todd Bertuzzi got to do to make your list?
I think the CBC list was done before the Bertuzzi incident.
