Love it or hate it, MySpace has introduced us to many new friends and fans, and we continue to focus on connecting more people with our network. My roomate, a professional graphic designer, redid the GoonBlog profile yesterday and it looks fantastic. Tom and some designer friends feature a lot of free MySpace layouts on their site so here’s a little shout out for their hard work and generous contribution to GB. Please join our network of buddies if you haven’t already. I swear we’re going to start writing about hockey again soon, guys.

T Shirts, Get your Goonblog T Shirts!
After months of talking about it, and fielding question after question about Gonnblog T Shirts, it’s finally a reality. So stop fucking asking. Seriously. I kid.
Goonblog has found themselves with a cash surplus, so it is almost a done deal. I gave Kinger a $150.00 deposit today, and Dave will be adding in our other cash. By the way, Kinger, I gave you my credit card number. If I see a $150.00 charge at a Providence Strip club, I will be…I will be….well, Proud. Anyway, with the amount of cash we have, we are going to get a pretty good initial run of T’s. We are still toying with designs and slogans to put on the back. We were thinking of a couple different ideas, but when it’s all said and done, we should take delivery on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Good news Dave, you have an outfit for CCHS ’91 reunion on Friday.
Having said that, these T’s are going to be for you guys, so give us some input on what you want. I think a few slogans are cool.
Shit Disturber
You wanna go?
Shoot. Pass. Punch.
MOL (that’s a custom job for MOL)
Spitting Chicklets.
What are the thoughts of the group? We can go with no slogans, or a variety. It’s up to the boys, and girls. At any rate, we here at Gonnblog are pumped up, and we would like to thank everyone out there for their continued support.
Oh, and Happy Birthday to the US Marines. Semper Fi.

YOU SUCK!
Juvenile I realize, but effective in its simplicity.
WTF
How does our NHL team have a 4-1 lead in the 3rd period and lose. My god do the Bruins blow
Where is Hal Gill? Please make a trade for Hal so we can blame him
As much as i love hockey it is really tough to watch the B’s, much like our friends in Indy watching their team go down in flames on Sunday night
GO PATS
Happy Halloween
Hey boys and ghouls! HI OH!!! I just flew in from Cleveland, and boy are my arms tired! Try the veal. Today is Halloween. I am not that big of a fan. Aside from the girls dressing like total sluts on the one day a year it is totally permitted, I am not really into it. Having said that, I do enjoy this time of year.
For one thing, my birthday was two days ago. MOL and some friends took me out and got me wasted after a crappy Lowell Devils game. Apparently I remembered I saw the Brooker/Neil fight in the Bruins game, but couldn’t remember seeing the final score. I think they final tally on the conversation below is around 986.
Me: Who won the Bruins game?
Group: The Bruins, 2-1.
Me: Did you see the fight? Brooker did OK eh?
Group: Yes, he did well.
Repeat.
It’s also a nice time for hockey. The guys have knocked off the early season rust, and are starting to hit the beginning of mid season form. There are a few payback games, and guys frustrated by early poor starts take it out on other guys.
Georges Laraque took his team’s poor start out on Calgary’s Darren McCarty the other night. Maybe it was because they were losing again, or he didn’t like the price Darren offered him for one of his Cup Rings, but Laraque went looking for McCarty and beat the stuffing out of him. It was a one sided beating, and I am glad to have seen it.
Speaking of one sided; Todd Fedoruk might want to go to France for a face transplant soon. The Boogie man lowered the boom on him big time. Hopefully Fedoruk’s career isn’t over. That really looked like it hurt.
Keep those e-mails coming eh? I have received a few good ones, and soon I will be posting the best of the best. Trick or Treat all!
Good Tilt
Live from Goonblog HQ, welcome to the Bruins best tilt so far. It’s technology heaven tonight here. MOL has taken delivery on her new cell phone, I am nerding it out on my new laptop. I am on my 5th Bud Select after a lovely pork chop dinner. Really, all is right with the world.
So far the tilt in St. Louis has been good. Great scoring chances by the beloved Bruins. I am telling you, as soon as Kessel finds the back of the net they are going to start pouring in. That was a NHL move to set up Bergeron on the goal. He got his bell rung too. Hopefully he comes back. An injury now would be bad for his confidence. If he comes back, he’ll know he can take a NHL hit.
Good scrap too. I always liked Bill Guerin. He is the type of guy that can do everything on the ice. He can fight, score, and can set up the play too. On the downside, he can be a very me first guy when it comes to contracts. At any rate, I didn’t see how the fight started, but he and Hoggan traded a few good blows. I thought Kevin Collins had come out of retirement to break up the fight, as it looked like he jumped in before the boys were done trading blows. C’mon boys! This is the new NHL we don’t see them go much anymore. LET ‘EM GO!! Hopefully the rest of the game is as good. If I don’t finish these beers, I’ll be back after the second.
SECOND PERIOD
That was a hit from behind from Billy Guerin.
My new favorite Bruin? Jeff Hoggan. That was the greatest interview ever. My new motto, “I’ll trade em with Billy Guerin anytime.”
I’m drunk.
THIRD PERIOD
Anyone that doesn’t think the Bruins are losing this game one of two ways. With 2 seconds left in OT, or via the shootout. Well, you just haven’t seen a Bruins game in a long time.
OT. SO.
I told you.
Lace ‘Em Up.
MOL is wicked smart. She has been going nuts on some paper for days. I really don’t know what it’s about because I asked her what she was doing, and it was hard to follow anything other than at, the, and…you know…little words. Tommy like wingy. The downside to her working so hard, is she’s been using our only PC. The upside? I have seen way more games on Center Ice than anticipated. Since I haven’t been writing due to a lack of hardware, I got a new Lenovo T60 through the employee store at work. I had them load Office as well, so I have my very own e-mail now. Drop me a line. If I get enough, I will answer them here. Have a little fun. The address is chris at goonblog.com. Here is what I have seen through the first week of the hockey season.
– Best fight I have seen so far: Colby Armstrong vs. Nolan Baumgartner last week. They threw the book at the Bomber, but it was a great tilt. I call the fight a win for Armstrong after being jumped by Baumgartner.
– The Lowell Devils have really cool merchandise.
– Sadly, I think it’s going to be more of the same for us Lowell fans. It wasn’t a very physical game the other night. I don’t see them having a lot of fights. No Lalond again. I like his attitude. I hope he plays this weekend.
– The Bruins looked good in the first period of their game Friday.
– Hal Gill looks awesome in a Leaf uniform.
– I think the West is going to win the Cup.
– The NHL is littered with former Bruins.
– Carolina looks like shit.
This weekend should be cool. The return of Worcester to Lowell. The Ref and I will try not to get as out of hand this Podcast. Well, try to try. Try to net drop $80 voice recorders between the rink seats.
Domi Done.
Tie Domi has decided to hang em up after a 15 year career. Never one to back down from anyone, Domi built his reputation through the years as one of the most willing enforcers in the league. He had said he was thankful for the guys that were established in the league when he came in giving him a chance to hone his rep by obliging him when he asked to go. Near the end of his career, he often turned down guys trying to do the same thing he had done many years before. He cited a different climate in which fighting exists in the NHL. When he came in there was no such thing as a time and place. If you wanted to go, you went. These days, it has to be the “right time.”
So, with Domi’s retirement came the groundswell of the end of the enforcer as we know it, and you can’t just be one dimensional anymore…blah, blah, blah…..I say hogwash. Domi was always an enforcer, yes. But I don’t think he could ever be considered a one dimensional goon. He skated surprisingly well for a guy that does what Domi did. He chipped in offensively every year. He has 104 goals and 141 helpers in 1,020 NHL contests. That isn’t too bad for a guy that spent 3,515 minutes in the sin bin in those 1,020 games. If you break those numbers down, his PIMS add up to almost 60 games spent in the Box. Some guys that are true goons don’t even have 60 games in the show on their resume. What Domi provided was grit, a few points a year, and a presence in the room and on the ice. Sounds pretty multifaceted to me.
While Domi represents the “Old Guard”, he is by no means the end of an era. The only era ending here is the Tie Domi era. Let’s not forget, Tie Domi is 36 years old. Guys that don’t do what he does are being bought out around the league. This isn’t like some 23 year old kid is being bought out because he only brings one dimension to the table. Domi is old by NHL standards, and ancient by enforcer standards. Fighting in the NHL is on the decline in general, and guys do need to be able to help the team these days, but just because Domi is done, it doesn’t mean the whole role is done. There are plenty of guys in the show that are keeping the role alive. So, Tie, thanks for the memories. You will be missed. Good luck with TSN. I look forward to seeing you this winter on TV. Thanks for doing what you did for 15 years.
That is a Very Deep Cut
I found this link on TSN. It looks like Trevor has a cut on his head. In reading what the Ducks’ website had to say about the tilt, they painted Trevor as the winner. Anyone see the fight?
All is right with the World
“Jane, since I have met you, I have noticed things I never noticed before. Colors…birds singing…..stop lights.” LT. Frank Drebin
A weekend wedding at The Mount Washington Resort in New Hampshire is a major reason I am feeling like LT. Frank Drebin. What a gorgeous spot to get married, and the Bride and Groom put on a great spread. Thanks for having us Mr. and Mrs. Derum, and congratulations! MOL and I will be here for beers when you get back from Hawaii.
The other reason for feeling like a new man? Hockey is back boys! The long pointless Summer with it’s heat, and humidity has given was to the crisp nights of Fall, and the return of the Boys of Winter! MOL and I made the drive back from New Hampshire last night so I would be able to make it to the Bruins/Devils tilt at the Paul today. She also had to work, and the NASCAR race was at Louden, so it made sense to make it yesterday. I awoke this morning in my own bed, ready to see my first glimpse of hockey this season.
After arriving at the Paul, and seeing all the old faces, we settled in for the game. Boston looked very sloppy in the first frame taking roughly 72 crappy penalties. The first stanza did feature the first fight of the year though. Wade Brookbank and Mike Rupp got into it right along the boards in between the benches, and after a long square off got after each other in front of the New Jersey goal. Rupp threw the first shot, and Brookbank countered with a right getting Rupp off balance. As Rupp was going down, Brookbank hit him again, and they crashed to the ice. Pretty quick scrap after a long square off, but I give the win to Brookbank because he landed both his punches of the bout.
The second period was more of the same for Boston. Lots of crappy penalties and not a lot of scoring chances. Toivonen looked pretty rusty, and the squad sure looked like a group that had only been on the ice for a couple of days. Billy Tibbetts looked very cautious. Like he didn’t want to do anything to be even remotely controversial. I don’t think that was Billy’s game. New Jersey for their part looked very good. A lot of those guys are familiar with each other, and it showed. They were crisper, and controlled the play. It also didn’t hurt the penalties were 492-1 in their favor. Boston could not keep out of the box, and it hurt them.
The final period of the night featured Wade Brookbank’s second scrap of the night. It was a quicker square off, and an even quicker fight. New Devil Dan LaCoutre and Brookbank got together in right at the blue line next to the home penalty box. They decided to go, and Brookbank lowered the boom on Lac’s face. He buckled the Massachusetts native with a hard right to his nose, and the fight was all over. Both guys were led to the dressing room as the fight came with 1:18 left in the game. I really could care less about the score. I am just glad to have hockey back. Next up, September 29th the Lowell Devils face off against the Portland Pirates at the Paul. Good seats are still available.
