Ah, the “Tie Domi vs Bob Probert effect”, where a tie is also a win. I didn’t think it was that great a bout, but I did think Gill was effective, and used his reach when he had to (as he should against a guy like Godard). However, I think if the jerseys were reversed, I’d hear the same from most calling it a win for Gill.

Here’s what I wrote in the forums on hockeyfights.com:

I didn’t really see a winner in the fight, technically, but Gill skates away with his chin up (and attached) and it’s got to be a boost for himself and his team. I don’t think it took anything away from the Islanders either. Green is chucking himself around and the Islanders let him know it’s not going to continue. Godard got his point across, Gill stepped up for a teammate. After a pretty even fight like that you can look back at it as a win-win situation.

Some mentioned Godard’s conditioning, and being sick and out of action so long to a bit of a toll on him, but he was out there and willing and I don’t think anyone should take anything away from Gill here.

The fight was close. I still think Gill gets the win, as he threw, and landed more punches.

I can definitely see it that way. The voting on the site reflects us too (44% Gill, 40% Draw currently). I mean, it’s Hal Gill and Eric Godard – who the hell would have thought it’d turn out like that?

Great point. Godard should Smoke him everytime. Dave and I will be in the house when the Isles are back on 3/25. Hopefully Eric is looking for revenge.

Last night’s game against the Leaf’s had me feelin’ all warm and fuzzy in the second period. I LOVE Nick Boynton’s passion and Hal actually played with some sack again last night. Can anybody please tell me why the Bruins can’t win a goddamn shoot-out? 0 for 6 is freakin pathetic!

Boycott the Bruins, they are a waste of your life to watch. Hal Gill is the worst hockey player in the NHL.

KIller, they are painful to watch. Luckily I have the Center Ice Package. I love Carolina this season.

Is it just me or does Brian Leetch seem like he’s mailed it in already? The guy makes mistake after mistake, takes dumb penalties and couldn’t hit the net if he was 3′ in front. He’s got my vote for the HOF but if this is what we are gonna get then i’d rather see some youth gain experience.

I was thinking the same thing. They have some good young D men, i.e. the Stuarts, and Leetch can teah them how to be pro players. His game however, has gone to shit.
